Touchdown in Nepal

Amy the Nomad

I was told that there are lots of plane crashes in Nepal and as I gaze out the window as we start our descent towards Kathmandu airport, I can see why. You have to navigate the mountain peaks, flying level with their summits. The plane leans left then right, then left again all the while bumping up and down because of the lift coming through the mountains and creating turbulence. Flying has never worried me in the least so I am quite happy to sit back, look through the small porthole and enjoy the ride. After a while, I turn my attention back to Skyfall, showing on the tiny screen a few rows in front of me. (Why they chose such a long film for such a short flight is beyond me but luckily I saw it at the cinema so wasn’t left wondering what happened next.) Bump. Oh, we’re…
